Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities found he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The ex-president was sentenced of planning a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than 27 years in incarceration, but he continued under home detention pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after recent developments emerged.

This included trying to remove his tracking device and a summons to a public vigil that could "allow for a potential flight.

Court Filing Details Flight Fears

In a document approving the custody, the judge said data from the facility tracking his home detention suggested the former leader's "intention to break the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his getaway".

This, it said, would be made easier by the chaos caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.

His child, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a legislator, called for a meeting of his followers near his father's house to take place on the weekend.
