Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then located many other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for details.
A senior political figure stated the attack left him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
